LVMH’s Métiers d’Art Division Making an Impact in the Leather Industry at Lineapelle Trade Show

LVMH’s Métiers d’Art division is making a significant impact in the leather industry at the Lineapelle trade show. Created in 2015, Métiers d’Art aims to support craftsmanship and manufacturing excellence worldwide within the LVMH group. Led by CEO Matteo De Rosa, the division has experienced tremendous growth in the past two years, with revenue increasing from €80 million to €700 million. In an interview with FashionNetwork.com, De Rosa discussed the division’s structure and plans.

Métiers d’Art’s main goal is to ensure that manufacturing excellence thrives in the luxury industry. They achieve this by acquiring full or partial stakes in companies and retaining their staff to preserve their expertise. The division works with industry leaders across the supply chain, from animal breeding to fabric manufacturing. Their companies are located in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, and Japan. Additionally, Métiers d’Art owns breeding farms in Australia, Zimbabwe, Louisiana, and France.

One of the key values that Métiers d’Art brings to its companies is sustainability and traceability. By pooling resources, the division helps its companies improve in these areas. Furthermore, Métiers d’Art allows their companies to do business with clients outside of LVMH, fostering healthy competition within the group. The division aims to make the expertise behind top-notch products accessible to all.

At Lineapelle, Métiers d’Art is exhibiting as a single entity for the first time. Nine companies are showcasing their products in a large, elegantly designed stand reminiscent of an ivory-colored bridge. From the leather sector, companies like Heng Long, Masoni, and the Nuti Ivo Group are represented. From the metal hardware sector, companies like GBGM and Jade Group are participating. Métiers d’Art is also launching its first website and revealing a newly designed logo, symbolizing excellence and the division’s global presence.

Sustainability is a strong focus for Métiers d’Art. The division follows the concept of “One Welfare,” which considers the balance between mankind, the environment, and the animal world. Through research and partnerships with external agencies, Métiers d’Art ensures it operates in the best possible way. For example, they sponsor veterinary research at a renowned US college to study their breeding farms. In Zimbabwe, Métiers d’Art’s crocodile skin farm provides employment and supports a local community of 5,000.

Métiers d’Art successfully combines creativity with production through its Residence Artistique program. Every year, an artist holds a residency in one of the division’s companies, fostering collaboration between creativity and manufacturing.

The division is actively seeking to expand its family of companies. While details cannot be shared at this time, an important addition from Europe is on the horizon.

Métiers d’Art operates in the leather, exotic skins, and metal hardware sectors. In the leather division, they cover everything from animal breeding to tanning and finishing in France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. In the exotic skins sector, Métiers d’Art leads in animal breeding with certified farms across Africa, Australia, and the USA. They also own Heng Long, a renowned crocodile skin tannery, and Verdeveleno, a specialist in exotic skin treatment. In the metal hardware sector, Métiers d’Art includes factories known for their luxury label hardware production in Europe and Asia.

With its commitment to excellence, sustainability, ethical practices, and innovation, Métiers d’Art continues to make waves in the luxury industry.
