LVMH Transfers Christian Dior Eyewear Production to Thélios

LVMH has officially transferred the production of Christian Dior eyewear to their subsidiary Thélios, following the expiration of their license deal with Safilo in December 2020. This transfer was part of LVMH’s strategic decision to bring eyewear production in-house through the establishment of Thélios as a joint-venture company with Marcolin in 2018.

Thélios, based in Italy near Venice, already manufactures eyewear for several LVMH brands and has now added Dior to its portfolio. The collaboration between Thélios and Dior aims to design, produce, and distribute a new collection of eyewear globally, with the first collection set to debut in January 2021 for the upcoming spring/summer season. Customers can expect to find these new Dior eyewear pieces at Dior stores worldwide and select retailers within Thélios’s network.

Dior’s eyewear line holds a significant position within LVMH, both in terms of sales volume and brand value. With the capacity to produce up to 1.5 million pairs of glasses annually, Thélios is ready to meet the demands of the luxury eyewear market. Additionally, the development of a second plant is underway, which aims to triple Thélios’s production capacity to over 4.5 million pairs per year.

Overall, this transfer of Dior eyewear production to Thélios marks a significant step in LVMH’s strategy to enhance its control over the eyewear supply chain and strengthen its luxury brand portfolio.
