In response to a recent call for energy conservation by the President of the Republic, luxury group LVMH is taking concrete measures to limit its electricity consumption. The company aims to reduce its energy usage by 10% between October 2022 and October 2023. Currently, LVMH consumes approximately 354,000 MWh annually, which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of a city with 150,000 inhabitants. To achieve their goal, LVMH plans to switch off lighting in its 76 stores across 522 locations in France between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. Additionally, the group will implement similar measures for its administrative sites starting from 9 p.m. Moreover, LVMH intends to adjust temperature settings across its various buildings by reducing them by 1°C during winter and increasing them by the same proportion during summer.
Furthermore, LVMH emphasizes that these measures will serve as a foundation for its Houses, allowing them to develop their own energy conservation plans tailored to their specific needs. The luxury group is also planning to invest more in energy transition, including measurement and control systems, as well as the implementation of renewable energy solutions. In order to promote awareness and engagement among its 34,000 employees in France, LVMH will launch an awareness campaign focused on eco-energy-saving practices.
This energy conservation plan aligns with the ecological, economic, and societal challenges faced by luxury players. It comes at a time when consumers are increasingly scrutinizing the environmental efforts of such companies. LVMH currently claims to operate with 100% green electricity in France and relies on renewable energy for 39% of its global activities.
