LVMH Strengthens Presence in Italy with New Fendi and Bulgari Production Facilities

In a move to strengthen its presence in Italy, luxury goods conglomerate LVMH is investing in new production facilities for its brands Fendi and Bulgari. Fendi, renowned for its accessories and ready-to-wear items, has recently opened two state-of-the-art factories in Fermo and Bagno a Ripoli. The Fermo factory is dedicated to shoe production and has replaced the company’s previous facility in Porto San Giorgio. On the other hand, the new factory in Bagno a Ripoli specializes in leather goods. Bulgari, the acclaimed jeweler, is also expanding its production capacity at its Valenza factory in Piedmont.

The inauguration of Fendi’s new leather goods factory in Bagno a Ripoli was held on Wednesday. The factory, situated on an eight-hectare site that was once occupied by the Brunelleschi furnace, has been redesigned to minimize its environmental impact and is surrounded by a park featuring 700 olive trees. Initially employing 350 people, the factory plans to double this number within three years. It houses all stages of bag and leather goods production, along with offices, a canteen, and a training center for leather craftsmen. This new facility will significantly expand Fendi’s leather goods production capacity in Tuscany, surpassing the capabilities of its previous site in Ponte a Ema.

Meanwhile, Fendi’s new shoe factory in Fermo was inaugurated on October 5. Spanning over 7,000 square meters, the sustainable factory equipped with solar panels has replaced the Porto San Giorgio site. The number of employees is expected to increase to 300 from the previous 120 in Porto San Giorgio.

Bulgari’s expansion plans for its Valenza factory in Piedmont are also progressing. The company has begun expanding the building, adding two new structures, and increasing the total surface area to 17,500 square meters by the end of 2024. This expansion will enable Bulgari to double its production capacity and aims to hire 650 new employees by 2028, in addition to the 750 already employed at the factory.

Both Fendi and Bulgari have prioritized sustainability in their new production facilities. Fendi’s leather goods factory has been designed to minimize its environmental impact, and the surrounding park features 700 olive trees that will produce 900 liters of olive oil annually. Bulgari’s expansion project in Valenza follows sustainable practices to reduce the site’s environmental footprint and preserve the surrounding territory and biodiversity.

These investments by LVMH showcase the group’s dedication to the Italian market and its acknowledgment of Italy’s expertise in luxury goods production. The establishment of new factories for Fendi and Bulgari not only increases production capacities but also creates more job opportunities in the Italian luxury sector.
