Luxury conglomerate LVMH has recently announced its plans to establish a unique laboratory dedicated to “sustainable and digital luxury.” This development comes shortly after the company’s partnership announcement with textile recycling start-up weturn. LVMH’s laboratory will be situated at the Saclay plateau, a renowned hub for academic excellence and innovation located in the western suburbs of Paris.
According to a press release, the laboratory is scheduled to open its doors around 2024/2025. Its primary objective is to bring together around 300 employees and researchers who will explore topics revolving around eco-responsibility and digital innovation in the luxury sector. The laboratory will work in collaboration with LVMH’s existing innovation structures in its various houses, ensuring a synergistic approach to development. Additionally, strategic partnerships with multiple stakeholders will play a vital role in this initiative.
This endeavor aligns with LVMH’s broader environmental policy, known as LIFE 360. The policy sets ambitious goals for the protection of biodiversity, the adoption of circular economy principles, the mitigation of climate change, and the enhancement of traceability by 2023, 2026, and 2030, respectively. By establishing this laboratory, LVMH aims to contribute to these objectives and drive sustainable advancements within the luxury industry.
