LVMH Appoints Vanessa Moungar as Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer

LVMH, a prominent luxury group, has recently named Vanessa Moungar as its Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer. Like many luxury brands, LVMH understands the significance of promoting diversity and inclusivity, and it has made these issues a top priority in its human resources policies.

Vanessa Moungar, a respected executive in the field of global social justice, joined LVMH in July. In her new role, she will closely collaborate with all stakeholders and report directly to Chantal Gaemperle, the director for human resources and synergies at LVMH. Moungar’s primary responsibility will be to oversee and coordinate all diversity and inclusion initiatives across the group.

To carry out her mission effectively, Moungar will leverage a well-established network of diversity and inclusion leaders in the various regions where LVMH operates. She will also build upon the existing initiatives implemented by LVMH labels themselves. This strategic approach aims to ensure that diversity and inclusion are seamlessly integrated into all aspects of the company’s operations.

Vanessa Moungar brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She holds a degree in business administration from the Paris Business College – INSEEC and a master’s degree in general management from Harvard University. Growing up between Chad and France, Moungar has always been passionate about promoting social transformation in Africa.

Prior to joining LVMH, Moungar co-founded a consulting company called AV Consulting, which supported young entrepreneurs in Africa and the Middle East. After relocating to the USA, she worked at Terrafina, a New York agribusiness start-up, where she eventually became the head of sales and marketing. In 2013, Moungar joined the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, where she managed public-private sector relations for Central and West Africa. Later, she assumed the role of director for gender, women, and civil society at the African Development Bank in Côte d’Ivoire.

Under Moungar’s leadership, LVMH aims to further strengthen its commitment to diversity and inclusion. The group has already made significant progress in this area. In 2019, Malika Savell was appointed as the director of cultural diversity/partnerships and engagement. Although Savell left LVMH in 2020 to become Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at Prada, her appointment underscored the group’s emphasis on promoting diversity. Additionally, LVMH established the position of vice-president of diversity and inclusion for North America last year and appointed Corey Smith to the role.

According to Chantal Gaemperle, Moungar’s appointment brings a new level of ambition to LVMH’s diversity and inclusion efforts. The company strives to continuously shape a more diverse and inclusive culture, and Moungar’s extensive experience will undoubtedly contribute to achieving this goal. Other luxury brands, such as Gucci, Kering, and Chanel, have also recently introduced the position of diversity director, highlighting the industry’s growing recognition of the importance of diversity and inclusion.

LVMH’s commitment to diversity and inclusion extends beyond mere words. By appointing Vanessa Moungar as its new Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer, the luxury group not only reaffirms its dedication to these principles but also takes tangible steps toward fostering a more inclusive and diverse environment for its employees and stakeholders.
