Luxury Online Retailer Mytheresa Joins Forces with Vestiaire Collective for Sustainable Fashion

Luxury online retailer Mytheresa has joined forces with high-end resale specialist Vestiaire Collective in an effort to promote sustainability within the fashion industry. Catering to Mytheresa’s top clients, this collaboration offers a dedicated web interface where customers can upload information about their pre-loved items and receive a price quote. Once dispatched to Vestiaire Collective, the items undergo quality and authentication checks, with customers receiving immediate payment in the form of Mytheresa store credit.

Unlike other luxury e-tailers, Mytheresa will not resell the pre-owned items on its own platform. Instead, they will be exclusively sold through Vestiaire Collective’s webstore and app. Currently, resale is limited to around 20 luxury designer brands and only available for customers in Europe. However, both companies have voiced their commitment to expanding the program by allowing more Mytheresa customers to participate, including additional product categories such as ready-to-wear, and offering a wider selection of luxury brands by the end of 2021.

While other luxury e-tailers have ventured into resale, Mytheresa’s partnership with Vestiaire Collective sets them apart. This collaboration marks the first time a multi-brand luxury platform fully embraces designer resale, further emphasizing the industry’s shift towards circularity.

Mytheresa CEO Michael Kliger believes that this service will bring tangible benefits to customers by giving their designer pieces a second life. By integrating circularity into their business model, Mytheresa aims to drive change within the fashion industry and sees significant potential in expanding the program to more customers, categories, and markets in the near future.

Fanny Moizant, President and Co-founder of Vestiaire Collective, stresses the importance of resale in creating a more sustainable fashion system. She is dedicated to promoting resale and partnering with brands and retailers to encourage customers to embrace circular fashion by reselling items they no longer wear.

The partnership between Mytheresa and Vestiaire Collective signifies a major step towards a more sustainable future for the fashion industry. By extending the lifespan of luxury items and reducing waste, this collaboration aligns with the growing movement of circular fashion. As consumer demand for sustainable solutions continues to rise, we can expect more partnerships like this to emerge in the industry.
