Luxury Multi-Brand Emporium La Samaritaine Celebrates 150+1 Anniversary

Luxury multi-brand emporium La Samaritaine, now under the ownership of LVMH, is gearing up to celebrate its 150+1 anniversary with an extravagant two-month-long series of events starting this Thursday. The celebrations will be a testament to the store’s rich history and prestigious reputation.

La Samaritaine has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1870 when the first stall opened under the partnership of Ernest and Marie-Louise Cognacq-Jaÿ. From that small stall, it has flourished into a remarkable department store and a true Parisian landmark known for its stunning architecture and diverse product offerings.

After undergoing a remarkable 15-year renovation with a staggering cost of €750 million, the doors of La Samaritaine were reopened two months ago, unveiling a luxurious shopping destination and a concept store featuring a dozen restaurants. Now, as the store enters its 151st year, it is ready to immerse its clientele in a whirlwind of festivities and experiences.

The anniversary celebrations, taking place from September 2 to October 31, promise to captivate visitors with an array of exciting activities. One of the highlights is the collaboration with the renowned brand Prada, which will be hosting an exclusive two-month pop-up showcasing their ready-to-wear collection, leather goods, and women’s accessories. The pop-up will also feature a video floor and a Prada triangle-inspired lantern, creating an immersive and unforgettable shopping experience.

But the celebration doesn’t stop there. For the history enthusiasts, art historian Margaux Brugvin will guide visitors on tours to educate them about the fascinating past of this iconic department store. These tours will be available both in person and on La Samaritaine’s YouTube channel, allowing people from around the world to partake in this engaging experience.

Furthermore, the festivities will tantalize taste buds with specially crafted pastries and cocktails by acclaimed mixologists and chefs. French dessert champion Jérémy Del Val from Dalloyau, along with renowned mixologist Matthias Giroud from Voyage, will present a meticulously curated box that seamlessly combines innovative cocktails and delectable pastries, offering a true feast for the senses.

As the celebrations unfold, La Samaritaine’s visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the Loulou corner store, where a selection of iconic products will pay homage to the founding couple. This collection will feature jewelry from Saona or Soline Camart, fashion items from the Bisous Skateboards project, and handcrafted treasures from Senegal by CSAO, providing a unique and diverse shopping experience.

Situated in the heart of Paris’ first arrondissement, La Samaritaine conveniently attracts millions of tourists each year with its prime location between the renowned Louvre and Notre Dame. Visitors will be delighted by the breathtaking views of the historic Pont Neuf, making it an ideal destination for both locals and tourists seeking an exceptional shopping and cultural experience.

The two-month-long celebration will commence with a grand cocktail party under the exquisite fifth-floor glass roof on Thursday evening, exemplifying the essence of Parisian elegance. This event will set the tone for a series of events that promise to create lifelong memories for attendees.

To commemorate La Samaritaine’s 150+1 anniversary, a seven-story pastry cake designed by artist Elsa Muse will be unveiled. Inspired by the Zootrope animation technique, the cake will astound guests as it rotates, bringing sugar characters to life and telling the enchanting history of the store in a delicious and visually captivating manner.

La Samaritaine’s anniversary celebrations are a testament to its enduring legacy and its ability to adapt and evolve over the years. The store’s commitment to providing a luxurious and immersive shopping experience, combined with its rich history and outstanding offerings, solidifies its position as a true Parisian icon.
