Luxury house Saint Laurent Productions is set to make its big debut at the Cannes Film Festival. The production company, known for its previous collaboration with Gaspar Noe on “Lux Aeterna,” is now supporting the release of late filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard’s unfinished work titled “Phony Wars.” This 20-minute short film will be presented as part of the official selection at the prestigious festival, which runs from May 16th to 27th.
To build anticipation for the project, Saint Laurent Productions and artistic director Anthony Vaccarello have released a 30-second teaser featuring a voice-over by Godard himself. This teaser provides audiences with a glimpse into the film and sets the tone for what can be expected.
But Saint Laurent’s presence at Cannes doesn’t stop there. The luxury house recently announced its support for the production of “Strange Way of Life,” a western directed by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar and starring Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke.
By venturing into the film industry with Saint Laurent Productions, Vaccarello aims to strengthen his ties to the world of cinema. “I want to collaborate with the talented figures in the film industry who have inspired me throughout the years and provide them with a platform,” he explains. Speculations about future collaborations with David Cronenberg and Paolo Sorrentino have been circulating.
It’s worth mentioning that Vaccarello had previously worked with renowned directors Jim Jarmusch, David Cronenberg, Pedro Almodóvar, and Abel Ferrara for the Saint Laurent Men’s Spring 2023 campaign, titled “The Director’s Cut,” where they created a series of portraits.
By entering the film industry, Saint Laurent Productions is making a bold statement and demonstrating its commitment to supporting and collaborating with esteemed filmmakers.
