Luxury Forum in Francophone Africa: Building a Thriving Luxury Industry in Africa

The recently published “Global Wealth Report” by Credit Suisse has revealed that Africa has experienced a significant increase of 7.7% in the total private wealth of its residents over the past year, reaching an astounding $5,808 billion. This growth in wealth presents a unique opportunity for the African continent to establish itself as a key player in the luxury industry and develop a thriving ecosystem of local and international actors that cater to the needs of the African clientele.

To spearhead this vision and foster collaboration among stakeholders, the communication agency Digital Society is organizing the second edition of the Luxury Forum in Francophone Africa. The event is scheduled to take place from November 23rd to 25th, 2022, at the Ivoire Trade Center in Abidjan, a vibrant hub in the Cocody commune.

Building on the success of the inaugural edition in 2021, which attracted more than 300 participants and featured 38 speakers from various countries such as France, Switzerland, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, the Luxury Forum aims to continue nurturing dialogue, knowledge exchange, and innovation in the luxury sector. The event was supported by renowned sponsors including Baron Philippe de Rothschild, Veuve Clicquot, Ecobank, Biologique Recherche, and Johnnie Walker.

This year’s theme, “The challenges of luxury in Africa: paradigms, bridges, and opportunities for global brands?” will explore the complexities and opportunities of the luxury industry in Africa from different perspectives, including innovation, distribution, and education. One of the key panel discussions, “Paradigm of a new luxury: How to build a citizen, sustainable, and authentic brand in 2023?”, will advocate for the preservation of heritage, artisan communities, craftsmanship, and the environment, including biodiversity. Esteemed panelists representing established luxury houses and emerging brands will share their experiences, address sector-specific challenges in West Africa, and offer their insights into global luxury trends and developments.

Hapsatou Doro, the General Manager of Digital Society Agency and Founder and President of the Luxury Forum, highlights the importance of forging alliances between European and African luxury actors to harness collaborative potential, particularly in distribution and training. Doro also emphasizes the need for specialized professionals in the luxury industry, as the growing demand for luxury products in Africa has outpaced the availability of local talent. To address this gap, the 2022 edition of the Luxury Forum will offer four professional training courses in luxury professions, supporting skills enhancement and fostering continuous innovation.

The three-day program of the Luxury Forum features a grand opening ceremony, where the Luxury Awards will honor the most groundbreaking initiatives in categories such as Technological Innovation, Sustainable Development, Retail Innovation, Best Communication Campaign, and Best Brand. Participants can also look forward to five conferences, four professional training courses, and the ITC Shopping Experiences, an evening dedicated to showcasing the expertise and excellence of the stores at the Ivoire Trade Center through activities like wine tasting and gemology initiation.
