Luxury Brand Mulberry Unveils Low-Carbon Leather Collection

Luxury brand Mulberry has recently unveiled a remarkable collection of bags made from the world’s lowest-carbon leather. Teaming up with Muirhead, a member of the Scottish Leather Group, Mulberry’s latest move toward sustainable fashion showcases its dedication to environmental considerations, which have become increasingly important for both luxury brands and consumers.

At the forefront of this collection is the Soft Small Amberley Satchel, which has been updated with a holistic approach to sustainability. This launch is part of Mulberry’s ongoing commitment to its Made to Last Manifesto, introduced earlier this year. The manifesto emphasizes the significance of transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain.

To put this into practice, all raw hides used for the collection were sourced exclusively from Britain and Ireland. Muirhead played a crucial role in this collaboration by tanning, treating, and finishing the leather at its production site near Glasgow. The bags were then skillfully assembled in Mulberry’s carbon-neutral factories in Somerset. The collaboration with Muirhead emphasizes the production of the world’s lowest-carbon-intensity leather, with an astonishingly low emission of only 1.1kg of CO2 per hide. Muirhead achieved this milestone through its close relationships with local farmers, usage of a thermal energy plant that generates heat from waste, and implementation of water-saving measures by filtering and recycling a significant portion of wastewater back into the leather production.

This partnership between Mulberry and Muirhead symbolizes Mulberry’s unwavering commitment to transforming its business into a regenerative and circular model. It serves as a blueprint for future collaborations with trusted partners, with the ultimate aim of achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2035. Mulberry’s focus on sustainability throughout its supply chain – from the field to the wardrobe – sets the stage for a more conscientious and environmentally mindful future for the fashion industry.

The launch of this low-carbon leather collection not only showcases Mulberry’s dedication to sustainability but also acknowledges the increasing demand for eco-friendly fashion choices. By offering luxury products that are ethically and sustainably produced, Mulberry sets a new standard for the industry. As the fashion world continues to evolve, it is imperative for brands to prioritize sustainable practices and provide customers with responsible options without compromising on style and quality.
