Louis Vuitton’s Cruise Collection Showcase in Isola Bella

During the presentation of its cruise collection on the picturesque Isola Bella in Italy, Louis Vuitton encountered an unforeseen obstacle – heavy rain. However, this did not dampen the spirits of the luxury brand and its star-studded guest list, which included Catherine Deneuve, Cate Blanchett, and Emma Stone. Originally planned to take place in the formal terraced gardens of the island, the show was moved to the stunning Palazzo Borromeo due to the inclement weather.

Despite the rain, guests made the best of the situation, sipping on bubbly and hoping for the weather to improve. Even Vogue Thailand’s editor-in-chief, Ford Laosuksri, joined in the optimism while donning a crocheted floral top and sandals to prevent ruining his velvet shoes.

Louis Vuitton’s creative director, Nicolas Ghesquiere, showcased his eclectic and futuristic designs within the ornate rooms of the historic Palazzo Borromeo. The collection featured scuba-inspired looks with avant-garde ruffling, as well as ensembles influenced by fencers’ uniforms, complete with protective quilting. The garments boasted intricate details like cinched fabric, drawstring necklines, and puffy Edwardian-style sleeves. Heart Evangelista, a Philippine actress, described the collection as “beautiful” and praised its combination of flowy and powerful elements.

This groundbreaking fashion show marked the first-ever event of its kind on Isola Bella. Once a simple fishing village, the island has been transformed into a lavish paradise by the Borromeo family. Throughout the years, the palazzo has welcomed esteemed guests such as Queen Victoria, Napoleon and Josephine, and even Prince Charles and Princess Diana in 1985. Celebrities and influencers, including actress Jennifer Connelly and Felix from K-Pop’s Stray Kids, flocked to the island for the show, taking shelter under transparent umbrellas provided by Louis Vuitton.

Cruise collections have evolved into highly anticipated events, with fashion brands selecting exotic locations as the backdrop for their luxurious showcases. Louis Vuitton’s event followed suit, following Dior’s Frida Kahlo-inspired cruise collection in Mexico City and Chanel’s presentation at Hollywood’s Paramount Studios. This trend allows brands to offer warm-weather wardrobes for those fortunate enough to escape the winter months, while providing a captivating experience for attendees.
