Louis Vuitton’s ‘200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries’ Exhibition Comes to New York City

Louis Vuitton is bringing its highly anticipated exhibition, ‘200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries’, to New York City. The exhibition will be hosted at 660 Madison, the former location of Barneys New York, and will showcase the creative and innovative reimaginations of the classic Louis Vuitton steamer trunk by artists, creatives, and iconic figures from various industries.

The ‘200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries’ exhibition has been on a global tour, and New York City is its fourth and final destination. Spanning multiple floors, the immersive exhibition offers visitors a colorful and engaging journey as they explore the unique trunks designed by visionaries such as Frank Gehry, Peter Marino, BTS, Lego, Nigo, Robin Wright, and Gloria Steinem.

In addition to the exhibition, Louis Vuitton is treating visitors to a special dining experience. The brand has taken over the former beloved eatery, Freds at Barneys, and will reopen it as Freds X Louis. Guests can book a table at this 9th-floor restaurant, where they can enjoy a delicious lunch and indulge in aperitifs and light bites throughout the afternoon.

The New York stop of the exhibition also includes a unique addition called “The Residency” program. This space, located on the lower level, will serve as a workshop for the in-house teams who conceptualized the project. It will also host creative workshops and provide tours for local schools. Additionally, the exterior window displays of Barneys, painted in the distinct brand colors, will be showcased in November and December.

Faye McLeod, Louis Vuitton’s visual image director, highlighted the significance of the project, stating that it pays tribute to Louis Vuitton’s ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. She expressed excitement about the “The Residency” concept, which brings artistic expression to the city of New York.

The ‘200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries’ exhibition was launched in 2021 to honor Louis Vuitton’s hypothetical 200th birthday. It began in Asnières, France, at the headquarters just outside of Paris, and then traveled to Singapore and Los Angeles before coming to New York City.

This exhibition not only celebrates creativity and craftsmanship but also serves as a philanthropic effort. The participating visionaries have generously directed 100 percent of their fees towards 15 different charitable organizations, raising 2 million euros so far. More details about the second phase of donations will be announced soon.

Fashion and art enthusiasts can indulge in the ‘200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries’ exhibition from October 14 to December 31, 2022. The exhibition will be open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, providing ample opportunities for visitors to explore this captivating showcase of innovation and imagination.
