London’s Outlet Centres Experience Exceptional Sales During Black Friday

London’s outlet centres, London Designer Outlet (LDO) in Wembley Park and Outlet Shopping at the O2 in Greenwich, South London, have experienced exceptional sales during the Black Friday period. LDO achieved its highest sales for Black Friday week in its 10-year history, surpassing the previous record by 8.6%. Similarly, Outlet Shopping at the O2 saw a significant 27% increase in sales compared to the previous year.

In fact, LDO had an overall successful November, with sales exceeding £9 million, making it the best November on record for the second year in a row. During Black Friday week, footfall increased by 8.1% compared to 2022, outperforming the wider high street, which only saw a 1.6% rise. The menswear category saw an impressive sales increase of 123.4%. Outdoor and footwear categories also performed well, experiencing sales growth of 37.6% and 30.2% respectively. This success can be attributed to consumers seeking deals amid the cost-of-living crisis and the presence of popular brands. LDO is home to renowned labels such as The North Face, Levi’s, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Boss, Guess, Kurt Geiger, Adidas, Nike, and Puma.

Outlet Shopping at the O2 also benefited from strong sales during the Black Friday weekend, with a 27% uplift compared to the previous year. Notably, fashion sales increased by an impressive 32%, while homewares sales saw an extraordinary growth rate of 62%. The centre recently welcomed the opening of Under Armour’s first outlet store in London. Located near other prominent sportswear retailers like Nike, New Balance, and Adidas, Under Armour’s store follows the brand’s new Factory House retail concept and offers a wide selection of sportswear apparel, footwear, and accessories. This recent addition adds to the evolving retail offer at the O2, which has seen multiple store openings and upsizings this year, including Carvela, Tommy Hilfiger, and various beauty stores.

The strong performance of both LDO and Outlet Shopping at the O2 during Black Friday emphasizes the appeal and popularity of outlet malls. With consumers increasingly prioritizing cost-consciousness and value for money, these centres provide an attractive option with their discounted prices and a wide range of popular brands. The success of these outlet centres showcases the resilience of the outlet sector in the face of economic challenges and the ongoing demand for affordable, high-quality products.
