London Fashion Week on Saturday featured stunning collections from designers Simone Rocha, Robyn Lynch, Roksanda, and David Koma. Each designer brought their own unique perspective to the runway, showcasing their immense talent and creativity.
David Koma drew inspiration from iconic actress Marlene Dietrich, crafting a collection that focused on the art of seduction. Roksanda brought a moment of grace to Claridge’s with a collection inspired by Japanese artist Atsuko Tanaka. The 24 looks showcased Roksanda’s talent for draping luxurious silks and creating trompe-l’oeil effects. Foil and crushed taffeta elements referenced Tanaka’s legendary Electric Dress. Circles and abstract expressionism paid homage to the artist’s work. Roksanda aimed to capture the theme of technology versus mankind, exploring the conflict between industrialization and human needs. Poetess Arch Hades added depth and emotion to the presentation, accompanied by the beautiful clothing.
Robyn Lynch celebrated Irish culture and souvenirs in a subtle and witty manner. Elements such as shamrocks, tri-color flags, leprechauns, and Aran sweaters were incorporated into streetwear designs. Rain gear made from knitwear, comic book shamrock sweatshirts, and roll neck Arans in shades of green were highlights of Lynch’s collection. The show featured a talented red-haired harpist, Róisín Berkeley, adding an extra dimension to the already well-executed fashion ideas.
Simone Rocha’s display at Central Westminster Hall was truly extraordinary. Her usual ethereal style took a rougher turn this season, incorporating elements such as straw, trapped lace, and stuffed roses. Delicate tulle bubble dresses and skirts contrasted with black leather bomber jackets and redingotes adorned with pearl patches. Golden silk created mutton-leg sleeve blouses, pleated skirts, and coat dresses for a rich and racy mood. Negligee and slip dresses were finished with lace, rosettes, and satin ribbon. A live performance from Dublin folk quartet Lankum added to the haunting and enchanting atmosphere of the show.
