London and Singapore-based designers win prestigious Red Carpet Green Dress contest

London and Singapore-based designers, Yuriko Fukuda and Zhi Hong Benjamin Koh, have emerged as the winners of the prestigious Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) contest. Fukuda, a current student at Regents University London, secured the victory in the womenswear category. She is an ardent advocate of sustainable fashion and perceives it as a means of self-expression and meditation. According to Fukuda, fashion possesses the ability to influence our mental and physical well-being, with sustainability serving as the crucial element for crafting a better future. Koh, a fashion, textile, and product designer operating from Singapore, emerged victorious in the menswear category. He founded The Material Atelier by BEN, a creative studio dedicated to sustainable fashion, and has partnered with local artists to create wearable masterpieces. Koh’s objective is to enlighten the public about the materials and design techniques involved in their garments through informative videos.

The triumphant designs will be fabricated in early 2022 using eco-couture textiles that align with sustainable practices, in collaboration with Tencel and sponsored by CLO. These awe-inspiring creations will be exhibited in Los Angeles as part of an upcoming event and will also grace the Red Carpet Green Dress occasion next year. Alongside these opportunities, the winners will receive a monetary reward, guidance from RCGD’s CEO Samata Pattinson, and access to RCGD’s network and creative support to bolster their careers.

Pattinson expressed her enthusiasm for Fukuda and Koh, drawing from her own experience as a former winner to underscore the incredible prospects that await them. Harold Weghorst, the VP of Global Marketing & Branding at Lenzing and a member of the judging panel, commended the winners for their resolute commitment to sustainability as well as their elegant and stunning designs.

The Red Carpet Green Dress contest, in partnership with Tencel and CLO, invites emerging and established designers over the age of 21 to participate. As part of the application process, designers are required to submit a digital sketch of their sustainable red carpet design. This contest serves as a pivotal platform for designers to immerse themselves in the realm of sustainable fashion, receive recognition for their work, and gain invaluable support from the industry. Winning this contest provides designers with the opportunity to showcase their designs to a global audience, thus forging a path for themselves within the sustainable fashion world.
