Loewe’s Groundbreaking Menswear Collection: Fusion of Matte and Shiny Materials

Loewe and Jonathan Anderson have once again captivated audiences with their groundbreaking menswear collection. Presented in Paris, the collection showcases a perfect fusion of matte and shiny materials, unconventional proportions, and a discerning eye for cultural trends. This innovative and inventive collection stands out as a highlight of the European menswear season.

One of the standout features of the show was the supremely elongated trousers that elegantly swept the floor while rising high on the stomach. While these trousers may call for a waist reminiscent of the Empress of Sisi, the effect they create is undeniably magical. Another noteworthy element was Anderson’s use of matching sequins in exact color coordination with the fabric, resulting in striking cobalt blue trousers, burnt gold shirts and cardigans, and even rock star-inspired shoes.

The collection masterfully combines matte and shiny textures, evident in the pairing of sequined pants with chunky color block cable sweaters. Anderson collaborated with Greek-American sculptor Lynda Benglis for this collection, incorporating two of her dramatic bronze fountains as a backdrop. The set, featuring a burst of magma and three towers of pots with flowing water, perfectly complements the clothing, creating a cohesive and visually captivating experience.

Anderson’s impeccable tailoring skills shine through in this collection, with gray check sports coats featuring flap and vertical pockets, and oversized herringbone coats stealing the spotlight. When discussing his inspiration, Anderson revealed that he wanted to explore different proportions to evoke a sense of angst within the wardrobe, creating a truly unique and thought-provoking collection.

Loewe, once considered a dusty old Spanish label, has now emerged as a formidable presence in the menswear industry, thanks to Anderson’s visionary leadership. The front row of the show boasted an impressive lineup of celebrities, including stars from the hit TV series ‘Succession’, K-pop and Thai singers, indie actors, and Pharrell Williams, who has attended three LVMH shows this season. The support from these industry influencers solidifies Loewe’s ascent to prominence.

As the show progressed, sequined tops in gold and silver underwent transformative processes, becoming fashionable sculptures through compression and ruching. Anderson’s creativity truly shone with stamped leather and brocade fabrics attached to torsos using large faux pins, creating a trompe l’oeil effect that adds a unique 2D image to the garments, further pushing the boundaries of traditional fashion design.

Loewe’s Spring-Summer 2024 menswear collection is a testament to Anderson’s exceptional craftsmanship and innovative vision. It firmly establishes Loewe as a brand that fearlessly pushes boundaries and sets new trends in the fashion industry. With each collection, Loewe continues to captivate audiences and redefine the menswear landscape.
