Lewis Hamilton Collaborates with IWC Schaffhausen for Limited-Edition Watch

Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton continues to expand his already impressive résumé with another accomplishment. Not only is he a top talent in the world of motorsports, but he has also become a brand ambassador and collaborator for luxury watch brand IWC Schaffhausen. Together with IWC, Hamilton has co-designed a limited-edition watch that is bound to make a statement.

The watch in question is the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph, which is being unveiled today. Unlike the white ceramic IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Lake Tahoe that Hamilton wore during the Miami F1 grand prix in May, the Portugieser reflects his daring and bold sense of style.

With its striking lustrous teal-colored dial, adorned with 12 diamond hour markers, the watch exudes elegance and sophistication. A teal textile strap complements the unique aesthetic of the timepiece. The 43.5mm platinum case is equipped with a sapphire crystal back, allowing a glimpse into the intricate inner workings of the watch. And for an added touch of luxury, the watch features an 18-carat gold oscillating weight.

The face of the watch showcases three complications, elevating it beyond a mere timekeeping instrument. At 12 o’clock, there is a chronograph function subdial that can be used to time an F1 race, highlighting the watch’s connection to the world of motorsports. A retrograde date display on the left side of the dial adds a unique twist to the timepiece. However, the most eye-catching feature of all is the flying “hacking” minute tourbillon located at 6 o’clock. Not only does it serve as a visual focal point, but it also contributes to the watch’s accuracy by minimizing the impact of gravity on its mechanical elements. Developed by IWC, the innovative Diamond Shell technology reduces friction and ensures precise timekeeping.

This collaboration marks Hamilton’s third special edition design for IWC since 2014. His previous creations include the titanium Ingenieur Chronograph Edition Lewis Hamilton and the black ceramic Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Lewis Hamilton.” The Portugieser is a testament to the timeless elegance and iconic status of this particular model, which originally debuted in the late 1930s. Limited to just 44 pieces, a reference to Hamilton’s F1 racing number, this watch is expected to sell out quickly.

The collaboration between Lewis Hamilton and IWC represents the perfect marriage of style and performance in the world of wristwatches and car races. As a seven-time world champion in Formula 1, Hamilton knows a thing or two about pushing boundaries and achieving excellence. His partnership with IWC has allowed him to extend his influence beyond the racetrack and into the world of luxury timepieces. With the unveiling of the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph, Hamilton’s impact on the watch industry is solidified, and his fans eagerly anticipate his next collaboration with IWC.
