The legal battle between Ivanka Trump and Italian fashion house, Aquazzura, is set to go to court. Ivanka Trump, daughter of President Donald Trump and White House advisor, had been trying to avoid appearing in court, claiming exemption due to her position. However, a New York district judge has rejected these arguments and demanded that Ivanka Trump provide explanations for her alleged involvement in the counterfeiting case.
The trial, which will be limited to two hours, is scheduled to take place in a Washington court by the end of October 2017. The focus of the trial will be on the similarities between Ivanka Trump’s shoe collection and Aquazzura’s “Wild Thing” line.
Aquazzura had filed a lawsuit against Ivanka Trump and her associate, Marc Fisher, in June 2016, accusing them of counterfeiting. The fashion house claimed that Ivanka Trump’s shoes, particularly the La Hettie model, closely resembled their Wild Thing shoes. Aquazzura shoes have gained global recognition and have been worn by celebrities such as Jamie Chung, Kendall Jenner, and Beyoncé.
According to Aquazzura’s complaint, almost every detail of the Wild Thing shoes, including their shape, silhouette, fringed toes, tasseled heels, and color palette, have been copied by Ivanka Trump’s shoe collection.
It remains to be seen how the court will decide on this case. However, it is clear that this legal battle has drawn attention due to Ivanka Trump’s role as a White House advisor and the allegations of counterfeiting against her.
