Le Printemps Department Store Adopts Social and Environmental Responsibility

Le Printemps department store in France is adopting a fresh social and environmental approach with its latest venture. Starting from September 2, all Le Printemps stores across the country will showcase the slogan ‘Unis vers le beau responsable’ (Together for positive engagement) on their windows. This new initiative aims to highlight a curated selection of products and brands that prioritize ethical practices in society and the environment.

To reinforce its commitment to sustainability, Le Printemps has introduced a new certification label applicable to all product categories in their stores and e-shop. In collaboration with the Imagin/able agency, Le Printemps has developed a reference grid that evaluates the social and environmental strategies of fashion, interior decoration, beauty, and food brands. This evaluation comprises 22 factors across nine key areas, including fair trade, social engagement, sustainability, craftsmanship, and innovation. Brands must score a minimum of 30 out of 100 on this assessment to obtain the certification.

Currently, nearly 400 brands available at Le Printemps have met the criteria for this certification. Attaining the label has become a goal for the majority of brands sold at the department store. Le Printemps is also organizing conferences, workshops, and collaborations with charitable organizations to promote sustainability and circularity, as well as collect used clothing and accessories.

In an additional effort, Le Printemps is dedicating a new section on the top floor of its Haussmann branch in Paris to circular products, specifically for women. By establishing a presence in social and environmental issues, the department store aims to set a precedent and champion responsible practices within the industry.

Le Printemps’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility extends beyond mere marketing tactics. The introduction of the certification label and the accompanying initiatives will empower consumers to make conscious choices and support brands that prioritize ethical practices. Le Printemps is leading the way in urging other retailers to prioritize social and environmental responsibility. Through its new approach, the department store is redefining its role and paving the way for a more sustainable fashion industry.
