Lanvin Announces Split with Artistic Director Bouchra Jarrar

Lanvin, the French fashion house, has recently announced its split with artistic director Bouchra Jarrar. Jarrar had been with the brand since March 2016, but both parties have decided to end their collaboration during a difficult time for Lanvin.

Bouchra Jarrar will no longer be designing for Lanvin, as the French-Moroccan designer and the fashion house have mutually agreed to part ways on July 6, 2017.

Speculations about Jarrar’s departure arose after she posted an image on Instagram featuring a winged woman on the rooftop of the Petit Palais with the caption “L’envol-la grace” (Taking Flight – Grace). Many wondered if this was a hint about her future plans.

Shaw-Lan Wang, the businesswoman who acquired Lanvin in 2001, expressed her gratitude towards Jarrar for her work as the artistic director. Jarrar also showed her appreciation for the opportunity. It remains to be seen what direction Jarrar, who has close ties to Jean-Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix, and Balenciaga, will take next.

Lanvin has faced challenges in recovering since the departure of former creative director Alber Elbaz in October 2015. The fashion house has struggled to regain its footing ever since.

Furthermore, Lanvin has experienced a decline in sales since 2012, with the decline continuing to worsen. In 2016, the brand’s sales dropped by 23% to 162 million euros.

The first quarter of 2017 has also been disappointing for Lanvin, as sales during this period decreased by 32%. The understated and masculine-inspired women’s collections by Jarrar did not resonate with fans of haute couture creations.

It remains to be seen who will take on the role of artistic director for Lanvin and whether the brand will be able to regain its position in the competitive fashion market.
