Landsec’s Outlet Sector Growth and Success

Landsec’s outlet sector has been experiencing a period of growth and success, with premium brands either joining or expanding their presence within their malls. Despite facing challenges with rent collection, the company has been able to secure new lettings at various locations such as Gunwharf Keys, Braintree Village, Clarks Village, and Junction 32 in recent months. This trend is reflected in the completion of 26 deals with 21 brands over the past 10 months, including relocations and upsizes, showcasing the enduring popularity of outlet shopping.

At Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, well-known British luxury perfumer Penhaligon’s has opened a stylish 400 sq ft boutique, joining other premium brands like Stance and Quba & Co. Meanwhile, Calvin Klein has expanded its presence within the mall with a spacious 3,450 sq ft dual frontage store. Additionally, Radley and Lacoste have opted for larger spaces, emphasizing the demand for high-end offerings in outlet shopping centers.

Braintree Village in Essex has also witnessed a flurry of activity, with commitments exceeding 22,000 sq ft of space from brands like Calvin Klein, Kate Spade, Under Armour, and Timberland. Newcomers including Jack and Jones, Crew Clothing, Lazy Jacks, and Neon Sheep have contributed to the diverse mix of retailers, underscoring the attractiveness of outlet shopping destinations to a wide range of consumers.

Junction 32 in West Yorkshire has welcomed four new tenants, including Neon Sheep and Baggage Factory, who have secured leases for outlet stores. Brands like Barbour and Urban have also moved into larger units, reinforcing the flexibility and appeal of the mall for brands seeking to expand their presence in the outlet market.

Clarks Village in Somerset has seen a wave of new openings from brands such as Calvin Klein Jeans, Tommy Hilfiger, Henri Lloyd, and Lazy Jacks Clothing Company. These additions have enhanced the shopping experience at the mall, offering customers a diverse selection of premium and contemporary brands to choose from.

In conclusion, the success of Landsec in securing quality tenants and growing its outlet sector highlights the resilience and appeal of outlet shopping in today’s retail landscape. As consumer preferences continue to evolve, outlet malls provide brands with a unique opportunity to engage with customers in a dynamic and immersive environment. With a strong lineup of premium labels and new openings, Landsec’s outlets are well-positioned to thrive and continue to attract shoppers in the competitive retail market.
