Landsec Partners with Salvation Army to Promote Textile Recycling

Commercial property company Landsec has joined forces with the Salvation Army charity SATCoL to promote textile recycling and sustainable consumption. Landsec has introduced clothing donation banks at its retail destinations, starting with the O2 shopping centre in London and the Braintree Village outlet in Essex. Another bank will open at the W12 shopping centre in London in August, with the aim of collecting more than 100 tonnes of donations within the next year.

The initiative not only provides a convenient place for people to donate their used textiles, but also aims to work with brands in Landsec centres to donate end-of-sale-life pieces. This will help reduce textile waste among visitors, the local community, and retailers. The profits generated from reselling the donations will be given to The Salvation Army to support its work within the community.

Kirk Bradley, Head of Corporate Partnerships at SATCoL, highlighted the importance of such partnerships in driving environmental change. Repurposing and reselling donated garments can raise more funds for vital charity work. Anna Hill, Chief Consumer Officer at Landsec, stated that the initiative aims to give guests the opportunity to make more conscious choices about their consumption and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable environment.

SATCoL already diverts over 250 million items each year for beneficial uses, including over 65,000 tonnes of textiles. The partnership with Landsec will further enhance these efforts and encourage individuals to actively participate in textile recycling.
