Kim Jones’ Debut Collection at Fendi Couture

Fashion aficionados worldwide eagerly awaited the unveiling of Kim Jones’ debut collection at Fendi Couture. The prestigious Roman fashion house, known for its iconic furs, shifted its focus to showcase Jones’ first foray into womenswear during the French haute couture season in Paris. Although the event took place without a live audience due to restrictions, the anticipation was palpable as around 25 brands presented their collections online.

The debut show took place inside the magnificent Palais Brongniart, a neo-classical structure also known as La Bourse, adorned with grand Corinthian columns. This departure from Fendi’s usual Italian aesthetics marked Jones’ Bloomsbury-inspired collection. Drawing influence from the literary and artistic Bloomsbury Group, which included luminaries like Virginia Woolf, the collection was a reflection of Jones’ new creative direction, having previously made a significant impact in menswear at Louis Vuitton and Dior Men.

Jones’ appointment as the creative director of Fendi came shortly after the passing of the legendary Karl Lagerfeld, who had helmed the brand for over five decades. British Vogue offered an exclusive preview featuring Kate Moss adorning a striking ensemble reminiscent of Vanessa Bell, an artist associated with the Bloomsbury Group. In the build-up to the show, Jones strategically placed posters showcasing his initial looks on bus stops and magazine kiosks throughout the city, generating buzz and excitement among fashion enthusiasts.

While some critics drew comparisons between Jones’ debut and the playful spirit of Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando,” the overall reception was positive. Jones successfully blended historical inspiration with contemporary flair, setting the stage for a promising new chapter in Fendi’s couture under his creative leadership.
