Khaite: Empowerment and Strength in the Fashion Industry

Khaite, the high-end fashion brand, is making waves in the industry through its recent move to the Uptown Armory on Park Avenue and a significant investment from growth equity firm Stripes. This infusion of funds has not only valued the brand at over $100 million but has also allowed Khaite to create a stunning show space with impeccable lighting to showcase its latest collection. However, this fashion show is more than just a display of clothes; it is a powerful statement about empowerment and strength.

Catherine Holstein, the founder and leader of Khaite, fully embraces the spirit of New York and the women who have fought tirelessly for their independence in all aspects of their lives. According to Holstein, women in today’s world need to embody fierceness and ferocity as they navigate their journeys as independent individuals. Interestingly, she humorously muses that she may have lost some of her independence after becoming a mother herself.

The collection kicks off with ruched gazar tops and elegant columns, followed by a selection of tough yet chic leather coats. Holstein’s exceptional tailoring skills shine through in the oversized black biker jackets, spy coats, and trenches that maintain their artistic volumes without overwhelming the wearer. One particularly notable aspect of the collection is the same garment being recreated in various materials, such as a ruched power shoulder trench available in beige gabardine, black leather, and white glove leather.

For evening wear, vibrant red gazar flared sheathes, ballgowns, and Flamenco blouses inject a burst of energy into the collection. Ribbed corset-style midriffs add an element of style to the looks. Symbolic elements make an appearance in the designs as well, including buckles shaped like clasping golden hands and trimmed cuffs with smaller versions, all of which represent the societal norms that can hold women back.

Khaite also introduces a range of handbags that resemble light golden bars from a sci-fi heist, along with large roll bags that Holstein describes as capable of carrying “your whole life.” These accessories speak to the New York woman who effortlessly transitions from work to dinner or drinks, equipped with everything she needs in her bag.

With the support of new partners, Holstein has stepped down from her role as CEO to focus on the brand’s creative aspects, primarily designing and presenting shows. She deeply appreciates the trust and belief her partners have placed in her and her vision.

In just a few short years, Catherine Holstein has emerged as the definitive designer for the women conquering New York City’s concrete jungle while captivating the world’s imagination. With each new collection, Khaite solidifies its status as a symbol of empowerment and strength within the fashion industry.
