Key Swimwear Trends for SS23

According to a report by Stylight, scoop necks, micro bikinis, and men’s co-ords are set to be the key trends for swimwear in the SS23 season. Stylight, a search platform for fashion, beauty, and interiors, based their findings on consumer demand and celebrity influence.

Scoop-neck swimwear is gaining significant popularity, with demand skyrocketing 20 times higher than last year. Stylight notes that rounder and deeper necklines, reminiscent of retro silhouettes, are in high demand compared to classic V-neck or triangle shapes. Swimwear with low scoop backs and high-cut legs, which give off an 80s vibe, is also on-trend.

Micro bikinis are another hot choice, experiencing demand that has increased by over 1,000% compared to last year. Celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski, known for flaunting ultra-skimpy bikini bottoms, have contributed to the popularity of this trend.

Mermaidcore is a standout trend for women’s swimwear, featuring shimmering and shiny designs in beautiful blues, greens, and coral colors. Stylight reports that demand for shimmering bikinis and swimsuits is 27% higher than last year. This trend coincides with the highly anticipated release of the remake of the Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” this summer.

Ruffles have also made a comeback in swimwear, with demand increasing by a whopping 240% for swimwear with ruffled tops and bottoms. Stylight describes ruffles as creating a playful and feminine look.

Extreme strings and crazy cutouts are dominating both one-piece suits and bikinis. This trend aligns with the increased versatility and multi-way styles seen in ready-to-wear looks over the past year. Cutouts for one-piece swimwear are becoming more extravagant, drawing inspiration from streetwear styles. Demand for these styles has jumped by 43%.

For men, the “matchy matchy” trend is on the rise, featuring matching button-up beach shirts and shorts. Demand for this trend has increased by 36% this year. Stylight also predicts a retro vibe influenced by the “dolce vita” lifestyle, with classic white or blue shorts featuring white stripes experiencing a demand increase of 175%.

Camouflage prints are popular for both men and women, with demand rising over 1,000% year on year. These prints come in classic green/brown tones as well as more colorful combinations. Vintage styles are also in high demand, with a surge of over 1,000% compared to last year. Shorter and tight-fitting swim trunks in vibrant neon colors, reminiscent of athletic-wear from the 1980s, are particularly sought-after. Metallic sheens are also gaining popularity among men, with demand increasing by 41%.

Overall, Stylight’s trends report highlights the emerging styles and preferences in swimwear for the SS23 season. These trends cater to a wide range of tastes, from retro-inspired designs to bold and daring cuts, offering fashion-forward options for beachgoers and poolside loungers.
