Kering’s Commitment to Sustainable Development in the Luxury Industry

In a recent interview with FashionNetwork.com, Marie-Claire Daveu, the Chief Sustainability Officer of Kering, emphasized the crucial role of sustainable development in the luxury industry. Leading Kering’s sustainable development strategy since 2012, Daveu discussed the progress and objectives of the group in the field of sustainability.

Since the publication of its first environmental performance report in 2015, Kering has been dedicated to making a positive impact. Initially focusing on environmental aspects through a 2012-2016 action plan, the group recognized the necessity for a more comprehensive and long-term approach. In 2017, a new sustainability strategy with goals for 2025 was introduced, stressing the significance of a holistic sustainability approach.

Among Kering’s environmental initiatives are ambitious targets, including a 40% reduction in environmental impact and a 50% decrease in CO2 emissions by 2025. The group also aims for 95% traceability of raw materials by the end of 2018, reaching 100% by 2025. Additionally, Kering has implemented sourcing and manufacturing standards to ensure sustainability across all aspects of production and sourcing.

Daveu underlined the importance of innovation in achieving sustainability goals. Kering is actively investing in start-ups and partnerships focusing on disruptive technologies to drive sustainability in the fashion industry. Exploring new ways of sourcing raw materials and production processes is a priority to significantly reduce environmental impact.

Emphasizing that sustainable development is a necessary investment for the luxury industry, Daveu highlighted its crucial role in ensuring the longevity of businesses in the current landscape. Kering is dedicated to implementing a sustainable strategy throughout its operations to have a positive impact on the environment.

Noting the increasing consumer awareness and the role of social media in pressuring fashion brands to be more ethical, Daveu stressed the responsibility of consumers to support mindful brands. Kering is also prioritizing animal welfare, working on developing policies regarding the treatment of animals in the production process.

As the urgency for sustainability grows, Kering is committed to taking concrete steps to address environmental concerns. Through innovation, collaboration, and a commitment to environmental care, Kering aims to set a leading example in the luxury industry by promoting sustainable practices and responsible sourcing.
