Kering Rumored to be Eyeing Moncler for Acquisition

According to a report from Bloomberg agency, luxury giant Kering, led by François-Henri Pinault, is reportedly eyeing Moncler, a luxury brand known for its high-end down jackets. It seems that Kering is in preliminary discussions with Moncler, fueling speculation that the brand may soon become part of Kering’s portfolio, which already includes renowned brands like Saint Laurent, Gucci, and Bottega Veneta.

This rumor has certainly caught the attention of the market, as Moncler’s stock price experienced a significant surge of 10% on Thursday, December 5th, leading to a market capitalization of around 10 billion euros. The brand, founded in 1952 in Isère and now based in Milan, has been on an upward trajectory in recent years, thanks to the efforts of its CEO, Remo Ruffini. Its sales have grown by an impressive 19%, resulting in a consolidated annual turnover of 1.42 billion euros.

Moncler’s success can be largely attributed to its popular puffer jackets, which make up almost 80% of the brand’s sales. The brand has gained a strong foothold in the luxury market, especially among Millennials who are drawn to its sportswear and winterwear style. In fact, more than 40% of the brand’s sales come from Asia, where there is a significant demand for Moncler’s products.

However, it’s not just the brand’s appealing style and market presence that have contributed to its growth. Moncler has also embraced a new production dynamic, with plans to work on a monthly basis for all collections. This strategy has been accompanied by a focus on technological, creative, and retail innovations. Moncler has recently launched the Moncler House of Genius project, which consists of a network of pop-up concept stores that aim to foster interaction and showcase limited edition artistic collaborations.

As Moncler continues to thrive and expand its reach in the luxury market, the potential acquisition by Kering could further elevate its status and provide new opportunities for growth and innovation.
