Kering Implements Policy to Support Employees Affected by Domestic Violence

Kering, the luxury fashion group behind popular brands like Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Balenciaga, has recently implemented a new policy to support employees who are victims of domestic violence. This move comes in response to alarming statistics from the World Health Organization, which reveal that nearly one in three women has experienced domestic violence. The Covid-19 pandemic has worsened this issue, leaving victims even more vulnerable.

In line with the International Labour Organization’s Convention no. 190 on violence and harassment in the workplace, Kering’s policy on domestic violence applies to all of its employees globally, including those at the organization level and its individual brands. The policy, launched in January of this year, offers a comprehensive package of confidential support measures provided by specialist organizations.

One of the key aspects of the policy is the ability to adjust an employee’s working conditions, such as location and hours, if necessary. It also includes provisions for specific leave and financial assistance. Béatrice Lazat, Kering’s director of human resources, emphasizes that this policy showcases the company’s unwavering commitment to the well-being and safety of its employees. Kering firmly believes that domestic violence is unacceptable and feels a responsibility to combat this issue and provide practical help to its victims, especially considering the surge in violence during the current climate.

This new domestic violence policy is just one way that Kering demonstrates its dedication to fostering a safe and supportive workplace for victims of domestic violence. The company actively participates in the Generation Equality Forum, where it serves as a private sector leader in the Action Coalition on gender-based violence. Additionally, the Kering Foundation collaborates with various organizations to combat violence against women.

The Kering Foundation focuses on three main commitments in its efforts to tackle violence against women. Firstly, they focus on supporting women by partnering with local and national organizations that provide assistance to victims. They also prioritize preventing violence by working with younger generations, collaborating with organizations like Promundo to promote gender equality. Finally, the foundation takes collective action globally by partnering with international organizations.

Through its commitment to addressing domestic violence and its partnerships with organizations like Promundo, the Kering Foundation is actively working to make a positive impact and combat violence against women. By introducing a policy to support domestic violence victims, Kering is taking a crucial step towards fostering a safe and inclusive environment for its employees and making a difference in the fashion industry and society as a whole.
