Kering and 87 Companies Collaborate for Energy Reduction

Luxury group Kering is joining forces with nearly 90 other companies to prioritize energy reduction efforts this winter. This initiative stems from EcoWatt, a tool developed by French electricity network operator RTE, which aims to raise awareness about and decrease energy consumption. As concerns about potential power cuts in France rise during the winter season, EcoWatt has enlisted the participation of major French companies to collectively combat the issue. The platform monitors the country’s energy consumption in real-time and alerts the public and companies to reduce their usage during times of peak demand. This effort is particularly important given the current geopolitical context, which has impacted electricity supply.

Recently, 87 companies, spanning various sectors such as technology, transportation, agri-food, and banking, have signed EcoWatt’s charter. The charter advocates for measures like reducing heating, turning off advertising screens, adjusting lighting, and educating employees about energy conservation. Notable signatories include Carrefour, SNCF, and BNP Paribas.

Kering, a prominent player in the luxury sector, is also committed to sustainability and energy reduction. The company plans to implement practices such as carpooling, promoting environmentally friendly behaviors among its network of partners, and conducting energy audits. Kering aims to reduce its environmental footprint by 40% by 2025 and plans to decrease its energy consumption by 15% this winter compared to the same period last year. This aligns with the goals set by LVMH, another luxury conglomerate, which aims to reduce its consumption by 10% from October 2022 to October 2023 in response to the energy austerity context.

As the luxury group and other companies strive towards energy efficiency, collaborations and initiatives like EcoWatt play an essential role in achieving sustainable practices across industries.
