Kenzo, renowned for its iconic use of the tiger as a signature animal, has once again joined forces with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to unveil a new ready-to-wear capsule collection. This collaboration is in line with the “Tx2” initiative, which aims to double the number of wild tigers by the end of 2022.
The history of the bond between Kenzo and the tiger traces back to 2012 when former designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim launched a tiger graphic knit sweater as part of the Fall collection. The design captivated the fashion world, becoming a favorite among celebrities such as Jay Z, Selena Gomez, and Kevin Hart. In 2018, the designers teamed up with WWF to create a capsule collection in support of tiger conservation efforts.
Under the leadership of new creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Kenzo has introduced a fresh men’s and women’s collection made from organic cotton, featuring the iconic tiger motif. The capsule comprises an array of items, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, and dresses. For every item sold, Kenzo will donate $10 to the WWF’s Tx2 initiative.
The worldwide population of wild tigers has dramatically decreased over the years, dropping from an estimated 100,000 a century ago to just 3,200 in 2010. Thanks to conservation endeavors, the population rose to 3,900 by 2016. Through this new collection, Kenzo aims to play a role in doubling tiger populations by 2022, coinciding with the Chinese Year of the Tiger.
Scheduled for release on September 28, the collection presents an opportunity for customers to not only make a stylish statement but also contribute positively to wildlife conservation. With Kenzo’s commitment to safeguarding these magnificent creatures, fashion transcends mere aesthetics to become a vehicle for impactful change.
