Karl Lagerfeld Announces Relocation to Sustainable Heritage Site in Amsterdam

Karl Lagerfeld, the iconic fashion label known for its timeless designs, has exciting plans in store for its Amsterdam office. The brand has announced its relocation to a sustainable heritage site in the heart of the city, with the new office set to be housed in the historic Zonnewijser building on the Herengracht, a canal house dating back to 1615.

Scheduled for the spring of 2019, the move will see over 150 employees of Karl Lagerfeld making the transition to the new headquarters. Pier Paolo Righi, the CEO of the fashion house, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming relocation, praising the blend of classic and contemporary elements that resonate with the brand’s identity. Righi also commended Amsterdam’s vibrant yet refined atmosphere, noting how it aligns perfectly with the spirit of Karl Lagerfeld.

The Zonnewijser building, spanning an impressive 2,300 square meters, is owned by real estate developer Millten in partnership with Harvest Vastgoed. Notably, the building will be completely detached from the gas supply, relying instead on an Energy Label A+ rating, a significant achievement for such a historic structure. This move falls in line with Amsterdam’s ambitious goal to transition to a gas-free city by the year 2040.

Lennart Rottier, co-founder of Millten, highlighted the challenges of achieving sustainability within a building of historical importance but expressed pride in the collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld to ensure the structure’s energy efficiency. The focus on sustainability also demonstrates a commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the Zonnewijser building for future generations to appreciate.

To facilitate a smooth relocation process, Millten enlisted the support of international real estate service and investment firm CBRE, while Karl Lagerfeld sought the expertise of housing advisor Solved. Alongside its new headquarters in Amsterdam, Karl Lagerfeld also maintains an office in Paris, showcasing its global reach and dedication to sustainable practices.
