JW Anderson and xydrobe unveil collaboration for NFT of #harrystylescardigan

JW Anderson and xydrobe have unveiled their highly anticipated collaboration, marking a significant milestone for both brands. The partnership revolves around the creation of a non-fungible token (NFT) of the iconic #harrystylescardigan from JW Anderson’s SS20 menswear collection. The NFT will be sold through an auction, with all proceeds going towards the LGBTQ+ charity, akt.

The #harrystylescardigan gained global fame when Harry Styles showcased it during rehearsals on NBC’s Today show in February 2020. The moment went viral on social media, sparking a trend among fans who sought to recreate their versions of the cardigan. Recognizing the phenomenon, Jonathan Anderson, the Creative Director of JW Anderson, released the pattern and a tutorial online, further fueling the craze. The hashtag #harrystylescardigan has since garnered over 86 million views across various platforms.

To bring the NFT version of the cardigan to life, xydrobe’s in-house team of visual effects (VFX) artists painstakingly crafted each individual yarn in a 3D environment. These pieces were then interconnected using procedural techniques to replicate the six distinct knitting patterns found in the original garment. The result is a visually stunning digital representation of the iconic #harrystylescardigan.

The auction for the NFT will commence on December 12 at 19:00 UTC and will remain open for 48 hours. Only one NFT of the #harrystylescardigan will be created, with a reserve price of £10,000. xydrobe will exclusively handle the sale of this unique digital collectible.

This collaboration between JW Anderson and xydrobe serves as a testament to the ever-expanding influence of NFTs in the fashion industry. By transforming a physical garment into a digital collectible, these brands are exploring new avenues of creativity and self-expression. Moreover, their decision to donate the auction proceeds to akt demonstrates their commitment to supporting and empowering the LGBTQ+ community.

The partnership also reflects the innovative spirit shared by both JW Anderson and xydrobe. By embracing new technologies and pushing the boundaries of fashion, they are reshaping the industry’s landscape. As NFTs continue to gain momentum, it is apparent that more exciting collaborations and digital collectibles will emerge in the future. The auction of the #harrystylescardigan NFT signifies the beginning of a new era where fashion and technology intersect.
