John Lewis Ventures into Fashion Rental Market

John Lewis has recently ventured into the fashion rental market by introducing its new womenswear rental platform in partnership with rental specialist Hurr. This platform, which can be accessed through johnlewis.com/fashionrental, offers customers a wide selection of exclusive John Lewis labels as well as over 20 contemporary brands. The main objective of this initiative is to promote a more sustainable way of shopping that is environmentally friendly.

This move comes at a time when the UK Parliament released a report stating that Britain leads the European countries in terms of clothing consumption per capita. Furthermore, the fashion industry is responsible for approximately 8% to 10% of global carbon emissions on an annual basis. In light of these findings, John Lewis recognized the need to offer consumers a sustainable solution, leading to the creation of John Lewis Fashion Rental.

Customers can now choose from a range of rental options starting at £20. The selection includes carefully curated garments from John Lewis’ own brands, as well as collaborations with renowned brands such as Whistles and Somerset by Alice Temperley. In the near future, customers will also have the opportunity to rent items from the upcoming Erica Davies + John Lewis collection. Rental durations range from four to 20 days, and customers can even opt for next-day delivery if needed. Once selections have been made, the rented items will be conveniently delivered directly to the customers’ doorsteps. Additionally, a pre-paid postage label will be provided for easy returns. To ensure the rented items are clean and ready for the next rental, Hurr has partnered with Oxwash responsible laundry services for their dry cleaning needs.

By introducing this fashion rental service, John Lewis is accommodating the increasing demand for sustainable alternatives in the fashion industry. This allows consumers to enjoy a diverse range of fashion styles without exacerbating the environmental impact of excessive clothing consumption. With the inclusion of exclusive collaborations and a selection of contemporary brands, John Lewis is positioning itself as a go-to destination for fashion-forward individuals who prioritize sustainability. This new venture is undoubtedly a positive step forward for John Lewis as it continues to adapt to the evolving needs and values of its customers.
