Jacquemus Returns to its Roots in the South of France

Jacquemus, the renowned French ready-to-wear brand, is returning to its roots in the south of France for its highly anticipated upcoming show on January 29th, 2024. Simon Porte Jacquemus, the talented designer and founder of the brand, has selected the Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence as the venue for his latest collection. This exceptional foundation dedicated to modern and contemporary art is strategically positioned between the glamorous cities of Nice and Cannes.

Despite deviating from the traditional fashion calendar, Jacquemus has chosen to title his new collection “Les sculptures” as a tribute to the esteemed artist Alberto Giacometti. It’s worth mentioning that the Fondation Maeght houses a remarkable collection of Giacometti’s sculptures, particularly featuring rare bronze pieces from the 1930s. This deliberate connection to the art world showcases Jacquemus’ desire to infuse his collections with a fresh and sensual aesthetic.

This will mark the fifth time that Simon Porte Jacquemus has selected the picturesque south of France as the backdrop for his captivating shows. From Marseille, where he unveiled his inaugural collection in 2017 on the soaring aerial footbridge connecting the Mucem museum to Fort Saint-Jean, to the stunning Sormiou cove where he debuted his first men’s collection in 2018. In 2019, the lavender fields of Valensole became his stage, and in 2022, he orchestrated a memorable event at the base of the Camargue salt mountains in Salin-de-Giraud.

In addition to preparing for his upcoming show, Jacquemus has been keeping himself busy as the year comes to an end. The brand recently introduced a children’s line, broadening its range of offerings beyond adult fashion. This junior collection caters to boys and girls aged 4 to 12, presenting adapted versions of Jacquemus’ signature pieces, including t-shirts, hoodies, jackets, and shirts. To further elevate the shopping experience for young customers, the brand has opened a pop-up store at the prestigious Galeries Lafayette Haussmann in Paris, exclusively dedicated to children’s fashion.

Embodying the brand’s playful nature, the Jacquemus children’s line is accompanied by a unique and whimsical retail experience. Within the pop-up store, children can indulge in a mini-cinema where they can relax on a long bench adorned with comfortable red cushions. The cinema screen is imaginatively shaped like a porthole, captivating young shoppers and creating an enchanting ambiance.

Retaining an undeniable connection to his hometown of Mallemort, a quaint town nestled between Marseille and Avignon, Simon Porte Jacquemus continues to infuse his collections with the sun-soaked charm of the south of France. His upcoming show at the Fondation Maeght promises to be yet another unforgettable moment in the fashion world. It will undoubtedly showcase his boundary-pushing designs while celebrating the captivating fusion of fashion and art.
