Jacquemus Expresses Concerns Over Similarity between Lancaster’s Baguette Paris Ily Collection and Bambino Models

Recently, Simon Porte Jacquemus, the founder and creator of Jacquemus, expressed his concerns on social media regarding the striking similarity between Lancaster’s Baguette Paris Ily collection and his own Bambino models. Specifically, it is the Baguette Paris Ily that has caught Jacquemus’ attention, especially since a giant Bambino pop-up is currently displayed at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann.

Taking to his personal Instagram account on Tuesday, March 14, Jacquemus shared Lancaster’s campaign visuals and added sarcastic captions that expressed his dissatisfaction. However, it is worth noting that these posts were deleted a few hours later.

To further emphasize his point, Jacquemus commented on Lancaster’s posts, questioning whether the Baguette Paris Ily comes with the JACQUEMUS label. Meanwhile, his fashion house joined in with two emojis, one expressing shock and the other wearing a monocle.

While neither Jacquemus nor his brand have filed any legal accusations against Lancaster for copying their intellectual property, social media users were quick to express their annoyance. Many comments flooded the comments section, questioning the ethics of plagiarism and expressing concerns over whether Jacquemus was being deceived. Some even mentioned the possibility of lawsuits for copyright infringement and unfair competition.

While Lancaster is currently facing negative publicity on social media, it remains to be seen whether Jacquemus will take this matter beyond the digital realm. It is worth noting that the luxury and fashion industry has dealt with similar issues in the past. Major brands such as Hermès, in a case against NFTs MetaBirkin by artist Mason Rothschild, as well as Thom Browne in a dispute with Adidas over the use of four stripes, have successfully won plagiarism-related lawsuits this year.
