Intu’s Reopening Plans and Safety Measures

Intu, one of the leading shopping centre operators in the UK, is preparing for the gradual reopening of its 14 shopping centres as lockdown restrictions begin to ease. The company has developed comprehensive plans for each of its malls in order to ensure the safety of both visitors and staff, while complying with government regulations.

To uphold safety standards, Intu has implemented a range of measures including the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all employees and a limit on the number of people and vehicles allowed into each centre at any given time. In addition, specific parking bays will be closed to facilitate social distancing, and directional signage and floor decals will be put in place.

Continuing the enhanced hygiene practices adopted at the start of the pandemic, Intu will implement more frequent cleaning of high-touch areas such as escalators and keypads, as well as the installation of hand sanitizing stations throughout the shopping centres. The company is working closely with its tenants to ensure a safe environment for all, including the establishment of queuing areas within the malls to manage the flow of customers within stores.

CEO Matthew Roberts has expressed confidence in the effectiveness of Intu’s safety plans, emphasizing the thorough consideration given to creating a secure environment for all who visit or work in the shopping centres. The decision to reopen comes as a response to the prime minister’s announcement allowing non-essential shops to resume operations, provided they follow strict Covid-19 guidelines.

By prioritizing safety and supporting retailers in reopening their doors, Intu aims to navigate the challenges posed by the pandemic and provide a safe and comfortable shopping experience for all.
