Interview with Fashion Designer Alexis Mabille during Haute Couture Fashion Week

ULTIMZ Journal had the privilege of interviewing the renowned fashion designer Alexis Mabille during Haute Couture Fashion Week. Mabille is the founder of his own fashion house and shared his inspirations for the Fall-Winter 2021/2022 collection.

When asked about the inspirations behind his latest collection, Mabille revealed that he was fascinated by the concept of the “flower woman.” He wanted to explore the idea of a woman blossoming and re-blossoming, even in the winter season. To bring this concept to life, Mabille drew inspiration from a 19th-century book called “The Flower Women,” which depicted models transformed into flowers. This influence is evident in the skirt-cape dresses of the collection, which resemble large floral corollas. The colors chosen, such as wisteria, amaryllis, and roses, further enhance the floral theme.

The conversation then shifted to the impact of the pandemic on the demand for Haute Couture. Mabille explained that while the demand hasn’t dramatically changed, it has slowed down. However, he noted that many clients still make purchases in advance to secure their desired designs, even if there are no specific events to attend. In some countries, waiting too long to purchase a couture outfit could mean losing it to someone else. Mabille also mentioned that the demand mainly comes from Gulf countries, the United States (especially California), and Asia (particularly Singapore and Malaysia). Interestingly, French clients tend to gravitate towards luxury ready-to-wear rather than Haute Couture.

The interview also touched upon Mabille’s ventures in interior decoration. He revealed that he has previously worked on designing restaurants, apartments, and even collaborated on a marble bathroom with Jacob Delafon. While these projects are separate from his fashion house, Mabille has established a decoration agency called BeauBow to accommodate the demand. Though specific details regarding upcoming projects were kept confidential, Mabille shared that one will be unveiled in the coming days, another in September or October, and one in January.
