International Woolmark Prize Launches 2021 Video Campaign

The International Woolmark Prize, renowned as one of the most prestigious accolades in the fashion industry, has recently gained significant exposure with the launch of its 2021 video campaign. Created by Solange Knowles’ Saint Heron agency, the campaign showcases the final collections of the six Woolmark Prize finalists: Bethany Williams, Casablanca, Kenneth Ize, Lecavalier, Matty Bovan, and Thebe Magugu.

Titled ‘Passage,’ the short film serves as a tribute to these talented designers and features a diverse cast, including rising musical talents and legendary figures. Dionne Warwick, Dominique Jackson, SahBabii, Joi, and KeiyaA are among the prominent artists who make up the ensemble.

Directed by the award-winning filmmaker Wu Tsang and created by Solange Knowles, ‘Passage’ combines the artistic expertise of Ib Kamara’s styling and an original score by Standing on The Corner. Solange Knowles explains her inspiration behind the film, stating, “In continuing Saint Heron’s world-making practice, ‘Passage’ further explores my interest in theatrical production through the translation of identity, spirit, philosophy, and creation. Whether it be through album artwork, stage design, or filmmaking, I’ve always sought to create new visual languages that encompass the expressions my other works cannot communicate.”

Knowles also emphasizes the significance of collaboration and communal creative exchange in this project and expresses her admiration for Wu Tsang’s work. The Saint Heron team, along with all the artists and designers involved, have combined their unique talents to deliver an immersive and groundbreaking film experience.

The International Woolmark Prize is dedicated to acknowledging and nurturing emerging fashion designers. By partnering with the Saint Heron agency and producing this captivating film, the prize aims to raise awareness and appreciation for the finalists and the creativity they bring to the fashion industry.

In addition to showcasing the collections of these visionary designers, the video campaign highlights the impactful fusion of fashion, music, and film as powerful mediums for storytelling and creative expression. With Solange Knowles and Wu Tsang at the helm, ‘Passage’ offers viewers a one-of-a-kind, enthralling visual experience that transcends traditional boundaries in the fashion industry.

As the International Woolmark Prize continues to champion innovation and creativity, collaborations like this film demonstrate the potential for pushing boundaries and redefining the presentation and experience of fashion. By blending different art forms and perspectives, the prize solidifies its commitment to celebrating diversity, talent, and collaboration within the fashion community.

‘Passage’ stands as a testament to the power of collective creativity and the endless possibilities that emerge when talented individuals from various disciplines unite. This film not only showcases the Woolmark Prize finalists but also embodies the spirit of collaboration and the celebration of individuality that both the prize and the Saint Heron agency advocate.

In a world increasingly driven by visual storytelling, ‘Passage’ offers a refreshing and thought-provoking perspective on fashion. It invites viewers to immerse themselves in a multi-sensory experience that seamlessly merges fashion, music, and film, thereby redefining the boundaries of creativity within the industry.

The collaboration between the International Woolmark Prize and the Saint Heron agency, as exemplified by the release of ‘Passage,’ marks a new chapter in the fashion world, where artistry and innovation take center stage.
