The International Woolmark Prize has a prestigious history, dating back to 1954 when it awarded Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld. The prize has served as a platform for nurturing and developing talent in the fashion industry, with past winners including renowned designers such as Valentino Garavani and Gabriela Hearst. The most recent recipient is Saul Nash, who joins the ranks of these esteemed designers.

He thanked the Advisory Council for their assistance in selecting the final eight and congratulated the finalists on behalf of Australian woolgrowers.

Each finalist will create a collection featuring Merino wool, either as part of their Autumn/Winter 2023 collection or as a stand-alone capsule collection for the International Woolmark Prize. These collections will showcase the versatility, innovation, and sustainability of Merino wool. The winner of the International Woolmark Prize will receive a prize of AU$200,000 to invest in their business development, while another finalist will be presented with the Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation, accompanied by AU$100,000. The Woolmark Supply Chain Award will recognize a trade partner’s exceptional contribution to driving wool supply chain innovation.

In addition to the monetary prizes, each finalist will receive AU$60,000 to further develop their Merino wool collection. They will also benefit from the program’s educational and mentoring initiative, the Innovation Academy, which will provide guidance and support from prominent industry leaders. Furthermore, all finalists will have the opportunity to have their designs stocked at leading global stores through the International Woolmark Prize Retailer Network.
