Indie Haute Couture: Giorgio Armani, Stephane Rolland, and Alexandre Vauthier
The Paris couture season has brought forth a fresh wave of independent couturiers, from industry giants like Giorgio Armani to up-and-coming fashion houses like Stephane Rolland and Alexandre Vauthier. What unites them is their passion for creating distinct and unique styles.
Giorgio Armani’s latest Armani Privé haute couture collection received a well-deserved standing ovation. The show took place at the iconic Salle Pleyel, which was transformed into an Armani-themed black and beige box with mini nightclub lamps. The collection wowed with its elegant fantasy, featuring standout pieces like a white chemise and gilet paired with Indian-style jodhpurs, topped off with a sequined skullcap. The Chatelet Theatre provided the perfect backdrop, as it was where Barbara achieved her greatest triumphs. Models graced the runway in asymmetric tunics, velvet jumpsuits, and screen-idol sheath dresses, while Masai embroidered gowns added a unique touch. French actress Valerie Lemercier, another icon in her own right, addressed the audience before the show, highlighting the connection between Barbara’s music and Rolland’s flowing gowns.
Alexandre Vauthier brought glitz and drama to the couture scene with his collection, featuring an abundance of sequins and feathers. The runway show was set in a condemned laboratory in Paris, adding an edgy backdrop to the extravagant designs. Vauthier’s creations exuded confidence, with eye-catching black gowns and show-stopping dresses stealing the spotlight. While staying true to his signature high-octane glamour, Vauthier also introduced new elements like voluminous sci-fi tunics and jackets. However, the highlight of the collection came with the more subdued beige crepe dresses adorned with strass and Marabou feathers.
As independent couturiers, Armani, Rolland, and Vauthier each showcased their own unique perspectives and design aesthetics.
