House of Dagmar Wins Zalando Sustainability Award at Copenhagen Fashion Week 2021

Copenhagen Fashion Week recently made headlines by awarding House of Dagmar with the coveted Zalando Sustainability Award 2021. This esteemed accolade recognizes House of Dagmar’s unwavering dedication to implementing sustainable practices across all aspects of its design and production processes.

Since its establishment in 2005, House of Dagmar has been a trailblazer in the realm of sustainable fashion. The brand’s commitment to quality is evident in its careful selection of materials, ensuring that each garment is not only stylish but also built to last. In a bid to reduce its environmental footprint, House of Dagmar introduced jackets and raincoats made from recycled plastic bottles in 2014, and made the switch to using only organic cotton and denim in 2016. Last year, the brand took a proactive step by measuring the environmental impact of its products through The European Clothing Action Plan (ECAP). The findings showed that 25% of House of Dagmar’s products were sustainable, with a target of achieving 90% sustainability by the end of 2020.

Sofia Wallenstam, the brand director of House of Dagmar, expressed the team’s joy at being recognized for their sustainability efforts. “We have been focusing on sustainability for over 15 years, and this award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to creating a more environmentally conscious fashion industry,” she said. Wallenstam also acknowledged that while the brand has made significant progress, there is still much work to be done. The award serves as a reminder to continue raising the bar and striving for even higher sustainability standards.

The independent jury responsible for selecting the winner included prominent figures like model and environmental activist Arizona Muse, CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week Cecilie Thorsmark, and Director of Sustainability at Zalando Kate Heiny. In addition to financial support, the Zalando Sustainability Award comes with an exclusive partnership with Zalando, enabling House of Dagmar to create a unique collection that integrates the brand’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitments. Zalando has also pledged to feature a wide array of pieces from the showcased collection at Copenhagen Fashion Week on its platform.

House of Dagmar’s well-deserved win at Copenhagen Fashion Week underscores the increasing importance and focus on sustainability within the fashion industry. The brand’s success serves as an inspiration for others to prioritize eco-friendly practices and embrace a more sustainable future.
