Highlights from Milan Fashion Week Fall 2019

Milan Fashion Week this season has been a true showcase of contrasting styles, with notable designers like Moschino, Del Core, Brunello Cucinelli, and Armani – 10 Corso Como stepping away from their usual design aesthetics.

For Moschino, the brand presented an aristo punk look that merged ball gowns with spiked chokers and towering mohawks. The collection featured oversized spikes, with one model wearing a black gauze gown adorned with nine-inch-high spikes. Designer Jeremy Scott managed to infuse a surrealistic element into the collection, all while embracing the brand’s signature humorous spirit. There were also strictly-cut wool bouclé suits, black stretch cocktails with semi-sheer mesh sleeves, mini bomber jackets, and saucy blazer dresses. The runway looks were paired with hefty boot buckles, chain belts, cartridge bracelets, and huge love emblem earrings. The bold and striking visual was completed with giant Mohawk wigs donned by the models. The eveningwear showcased country house ball gowns adorned with crystal medallions and studs. With a star-studded front row including Ashley Graham, J Balvin, Lana Condor, and Mia Khalifa, Moschino once again proved to be a hit under Jeremy Scott’s creative direction.

Del Core drew inspiration from his two-week hike through the Gate of the Arctic national park in Alaska. Known for his innovative approach, the designer delivered a collection that did not disappoint. Among the noteworthy pieces was a snow white wool suit paired with nylon gaiters typically used by off-piste skiers for protection. Del Core’s signature trick of reattaching split sleeves and trousers with hooks and eyes added an interesting element. The collection showcased the designer’s draping skills, with gathered opened-back gowns and crinkled white dresses reminiscent of dried out snow. For the runway, burnt tree trunks were used to line the Triennale design museum, mirroring the material of a dress that resembled burnt wood. Standout pieces included puffer jackets with harnesses and prints inspired by leaves or lichen. Del Core’s collection highlighted his ability to create fashion inspired by nature, with a focus on texture and the combination of materials.

Brunello Cucinelli not only unveiled his latest collection but also had the opportunity to dine with King Charles in Buckingham Palace. This meeting centered around Cucinelli’s plans to establish a sustainable fabric business in the Himalayas. The collection showcased the designer’s signature pure lines and soft color palette, slightly influenced by British manor aesthetics. The pieces featured in the collection included winter wear and rural weekend outfits, which gave a modern twist to the Downton Abbey look. Models toured the covered courtyard of Cucinelli’s Milan showroom, wearing pleated miniskirts, sporty V-necks, ties, and baseball caps. Soft Italian jazz music accompanied the graceful presentation, while guests had the chance to enjoy a selection of exceptional wines, such as the velvety 2019 Merlot named Montiano. These elements highlighted Cucinelli’s commitment to excellence in all aspects of his brand.

Armani surprised attendees by unveiling a denim collection called Armani – 10 Corso Como at Milan’s renowned concept store. This collection featured unwashed denim pieces contrasted with cognac-hued leather collars, trim, and piping. To enhance the overall aesthetic and experience, the presentation took place within an art installation titled Mobilia Essay by Italian artist Flavio Favelli. This collection marked a departure from Armani’s typical repertoire for Armani Jeans and Armani Casa, showcasing a fresh and modern approach to denim. The collection is already available online and will soon be hitting Armani boutiques worldwide.

Milan Fashion Week continues to captivate fashion enthusiasts worldwide with its diverse range of styles and innovative designs. The event serves as a testament to the creativity and fashion-forward thinking of these renowned designers, who continuously push boundaries and stay true to their unique visions.
