Hermès Petit H: Sustainable Luxury and Repurposed Creations

During the spring of last year, Hermès took the opportunity to enhance its Parisian store on Rue de Sèvres. The notable addition was a 67m2 space dedicated to the activities of Petit H, a branch of the iconic luxury house that places emphasis on sustainability and the repurposing of materials.

Petit H, under the artistic direction of Godefroy de Virieu, follows a sustainable approach known as “re-creation” according to Hermès. Their focus lies in utilizing surplus materials, including scraps, to craft exceptional and one-of-a-kind products. By breathing new life into these materials, Petit H showcases their commitment to sustainable practices and reduces waste.

In the fall of 2021, Petit H unveils their latest creations within this dedicated space. These unique objects and accessories are made from a variety of luxurious materials such as precious leather scraps, silk coupons, pieces of wood, crystal, and porcelain. The space boasts its own entrance and extends from the Hermès boutique seamlessly. The architectural and design agency, RDAI, has masterfully designed a space that aligns with the eco-responsible concept of Petit H, putting recycling at the forefront. For example, the terrazzo floor is filled with unused brass pieces, and drawer handles are crafted from excess leather.

The Petit H space not only serves as a showcase for these sustainable creations but also as a platform for thematic displays and workshops. Recognizing the increasing demand for sustainable products, Hermès and Petit H collaborated to create a modular space that can accommodate four creative displays annually. The inaugural season highlights raw earth as a material and has forged a partnership with Ravel, a renowned pottery manufacturer based in Aubagne. Together, they have produced exclusive objects, including a jar with a leather handle originally intended for a Kelly bag.

Additionally, the Petit H space will serve as a venue for various events and workshops. As part of their commitment to craftsmanship, Hermès is launching its School of Craftsmanship, further promoting knowledge sharing and skill development within the industry.

For those seeking unique and sustainable creations, the Hermès boutique located at 17 Rue de Sèvres in Paris is a must-visit destination. The Petit H space offers a glimpse into the world of repurposed luxury, where sustainability and creativity harmoniously come together.
