Hermès Opens New Leather Goods Factory in France

French luxury brand Hermès has announced the opening of its 19th leather goods factory in Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, France. The new Guyenne factory will not only increase production capabilities but also generate job opportunities for artisans, eventually employing 260 individuals. To ensure a smooth transition and provide support for the staff, around one third of the employees come from Hermès’s existing production sites and artisanal sectors.

The factory, located on a 5.6-hectare site on the Ambès peninsula in the Gironde region, was designed by renowned architect Patrick Arotcharen. The facility is divided into eight workshops and features a 140-meter-long building made of wood and concrete. The design maximizes exposure to natural light, creating an optimal working environment for the artisans.

As part of Hermès’s commitment to sustainability, the Guyenne factory incorporates eco-friendly features. The site has been revegetated with the planting of 100 trees, and the factory is equipped with solar panels that generate over 40% of its energy needs. LED lighting and a rainwater recycling system for sewage disposal and irrigation are also implemented.

Hermès has been actively expanding its production capabilities since 2010, opening nine leather goods factories in France and increasing the number of leather artisans within the group to more than 4,000. The brand is currently working on three additional factory projects in Louviers, Tournes, and Riom, where recruitment and training are underway.

The opening of the Guyenne leather goods factory exemplifies Hermès’s dedication to craftsmanship, quality, and sustainable production practices. With its ongoing investment in production facilities and skilled artisans, the brand aims to meet the growing demand for its iconic handbags while upholding its brand values.
