Luxury fashion house Hermès has made a groundbreaking move by launching its very own school, which has been accredited to offer the CAP Maroquinerie state diploma. This initiative will provide training in luxury leather goods, drawing inspiration from the renowned craftsmanship of the Hermès brand. Alongside opening more production sites in France in response to the increasing demand for its products, Hermès aims to foster exceptional talent through enhanced training.
On September 6th, the inaugural Hermès school was established within the Hermès leather goods workshop in Fitilieu, Isère. This is just the beginning, as the brand plans to gradually introduce training facilities in all of its leather goods divisions.
According to a press release from Hermès, the accreditation of the training program with the national CAP Maroquinerie diploma showcases the brand’s historical expertise in passing on its exceptional craftsmanship. The training, exam preparation, and evaluation will be conducted by in-house experts. Over 90 specialized artisan trainers, handpicked by Hermès, will guide the students throughout the slightly more than one-year-long training program.
The Hermès School of Craftsmanship is open to individuals from various backgrounds who have the opportunity to join one of the brand’s 19 leather goods workshops, among other potential career paths.
Furthermore, the school’s establishment aligns with Hermès’ recent success, as the brand experienced a significant 33% increase in turnover during the first half of 2021 compared to the same period in 2019. This growth indicates the increasing demand for luxury goods and further justifies Hermès’ investment in training the next generation of talented artisans.
