Hermès Expands Presence in France with New Leather Goods Production Facility

Luxury fashion house Hermès is expanding its presence in France by establishing its 22nd leather goods production facility in Auvergne. This new site in the Riom Limagne and Volcans area of Puy-de-Dôme will enhance the existing Sayat leather goods site, which has been producing for Hermès in the Auvergne region for the past twenty years. The establishment of this new manufacturing plant is being supported by the regional agency Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Entreprises.

Although the exact location of the facility is still being determined, a group of artisans in training will begin their studies in November at a temporary workshop in Riom. Once fully operational, the Auvergne hub is expected to employ over 500 artisans, making it the largest regional employment creation project of the year, according to Hermès.

This expansion comes as Hermès continues to demonstrate confidence in the recovery of its sales, which have already seen a strong rebound in China. Despite a 24% decline in revenue during the first half of 2020 due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the luxury brand remains committed to investing in local production and strengthening its presence in France.

In recent years, Hermès has opened nine new leather goods factories in various regions of the country. The upcoming openings of facilities in Guyenne, Montereau, Louviers, and Ardennes reaffirm the brand’s dedication to local manufacturing and job creation. With its longstanding heritage and reputation for craftsmanship, Hermès continues to thrive and expand its operations, further solidifying its position as a leader in the luxury goods industry.
