Helmut Lang Announces Peter Do as New Creative Director

Helmut Lang, the renowned fashion brand known for its avant-garde and minimalistic designs, has recently announced the appointment of Peter Do as its new creative director. Taking on the role starting from May, Do will be based in Helmut Lang’s design studio in New York City, overseeing all creative aspects of the brand’s collections for both men and women.

Do’s debut collection for Helmut Lang is set to make its grand entrance during New York Fashion Week in September 2024. This appointment comes as the brand aims to further strengthen and evolve its design aesthetic under fresh leadership.

Dinesh Tandon, CEO of Helmut Lang, expressed his excitement about having Peter Do join the team, stating, “We are thrilled to have Peter Do join Helmut Lang as creative director. His clear and innovative approach to design very much aligns with the brand’s ethos and heritage.” Tandon emphasized that Do’s extensive experience in luxury fashion, as well as his successful eponymous brand, make him the perfect fit for this role.

Peter Do, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, has made a name for himself in the fashion industry with his unique and modern designs. In 2014, he was honored with the inaugural LVMH Graduate Prize, solidifying his talent and creativity. After working at renowned fashion houses like Celine and Derek Lam, Do launched his own brand in 2018. Alongside his role at Helmut Lang, he will continue to oversee his eponymous label.

Expressing his gratitude for the brand’s legacy and the opportunity to contribute to its future, Do said, “No one embodied radical thinking more definitively than Helmut Lang. It is my deep honor to be entrusted with ushering in the next chapter of Helmut Lang’s legacy.” He added that he is excited to build upon the brand’s foundations and create new, energetic designs that inspire individuals to express their individuality.

Helmut Lang, founded in 1986 by its eponymous designer, quickly gained recognition for its minimalist and edgy aesthetic, becoming a symbol of the avant-garde fashion movement. After being acquired by the Prada Group in 1999 and then passing on to Link Theory Holdings in 2006, Helmut Lang became a subsidiary of Fast Retailing when the company acquired Link Theory Holdings in 2009.

The appointment of Peter Do as creative director marks an exciting new chapter for Helmut Lang as it continues to push the boundaries of fashion and redefine contemporary design. With Do’s innovative approach and extensive experience, the brand is set to captivate the fashion world once again. Fashion enthusiasts eagerly await the unveiling of Do’s debut collection for Helmut Lang during the upcoming New York Fashion Week.
