Hedi Slimane Revamps Céline Logo

Hedi Slimane, the newly appointed artistic director of luxury brand Céline, has wasted no time in making significant changes since joining the company in January. One of the first alterations he made was to update the brand’s logo, which was recently revealed on Instagram. The new logo features the word “Céline” written in a modernist typography from the 1930s, in all capital letters and without the acute accent on the “e”.

Céline’s social media accounts explained that the updated logo is directly inspired by the historic logo used in the 1960s. They further elaborated that the removal of the accent on the “e” is a reflection of the simplicity and minimalism seen in collections from that era. In addition to this change, the spacing between the letters in the logo has been reduced. Furthermore, the brand has announced its intention to reintegrate the word “Paris” into future collections.

This is not the first time Hedi Slimane has taken on the task of revamping a logo. During his tenure as the head of Yves Saint Laurent from 2012 to 2016, he boldly made the decision to remove the iconic first name “Yves” from the brand.

The unveiling of the new Céline logo comes a few weeks before Slimane’s highly anticipated debut show for the brand at Paris Fashion Week on September 28. This runway presentation is expected to showcase his fresh and innovative vision for Céline, which includes not only womenswear, but also menswear, haute couture, and even a venture into perfumery.
