Harrods Teams Up with Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama for Extraordinary Store Takeover

Harrods has once again teamed up with a luxury fashion brand to create an extraordinary takeover of its store, this time in collaboration with Louis Vuitton and Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. The store’s façade in Knightsbridge has been adorned with Kusama’s vibrant and iconic colored dots, creating a visually stunning display. Additionally, all 27 exhibition windows have been transformed with the artist’s artwork.

This exciting collaboration comes a decade after Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama first joined forces, and the new collection is said to be inspired by the artist’s whimsical perspective of the world. It includes a wide range of men’s and women’s clothing, accessories, and fragrances.

One of the highlights of this collaboration is the immersive infinity room pop-up located within the store. This interactive experience allows customers to step into Kusama’s world and fully immerse themselves in her unique artistic vision.

To further celebrate the partnership, a 50-foot robot statue of Yayoi Kusama has been positioned outside Harrods on Hans Crescent. The statue depicts the artist painting dots onto the store’s exterior and carries a painted dots Capucines handbag from the Louis Vuitton collection.

The main storefront along Brompton Road has also undergone a transformation, with Kusama’s colorful dots covering the entire canvas. At night, the storefront turns into a giant cinema screen, displaying images of multicolored, dotted pumpkins spinning across the façade.

Inside the store, visitors can enjoy a visual display of flying dots on Hans Crescent, and two pop-up spaces on the ground floor showcase a variety of bag styles, including a surfboard adorned with Kusama’s signature motifs.

The permanent Louis Vuitton space within Harrods has also been transformed into a Kusama wonderland. Shiny painted balls, dotted walls and floors, and store assistants dressed in dotted white coats create an immersive experience that transports customers into Kusama’s artistic world.

This collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Yayoi Kusama follows Harrods’ successful takeover by Dior. The ‘The Fabulous World of Dior’ exhibition was Harrods’ largest-ever brand takeover and marked a return to delivering high-impact projects after the challenging years of the pandemic.

Alex Unitt, partnerships director at Harrods, emphasized the power of the store’s frontage as a platform for showcasing these collaborations. The Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama takeover is set to captivate and inspire visitors until February 13th, offering a unique fusion of art and luxury fashion at one of the world’s most iconic department stores.
